The Paraglider Manufacturers Association (PMA) has officially amended its statutes to include a new “Incident Transparency Clause”, following a successful vote at the recent General Assembly.
This new clause marks a shift toward a more integrated aeronautical safety culture within the PMA. By pledging to share incident data, our members are prioritizing collective pilot safety and industry-wide safety research.
Key aspects of the amendment (Article 11) include:
- PMA members agree that incident / accident reports related to their products should be accessible for technical research and safety improvements.
- The clause specifically supports the dissemination of safety-critical information through platforms like the EHPU incident database.
- To maintain a constructive environment, the data is reserved for safety and research purposes; the statutes strictly prohibit using such information for marketing or to disparage other brands.
The goal of this statutory change is to better identify safety trends — such as complex compatibility issues between different equipment brands — that require a broader data set than any single manufacturer possesses. This step underscores the PMA’s role as a cooperative platform dedicated to the long-term safety of the sport.
